Things to Consider in Choosing the Best and Safe Sunscreen

Are you sure that your sunscreen gives you the right protection? Is it safe to use? There is a wide range of choices of sunscreen in the market. They claim full protection against the dangerous effects of sun rays. But how will you know what’s the best sunscreen for you?

You must choose the best sunscreen for your skin. You might be confused about which one is best for you. Mineral sunscreens and chemical sunscreens are offering different ingredients, SPF levels, and benefits that will surely entice you to buy it.

How to choose the best and safe sunscreen?

Finding the best sunscreen is knowing what you should look for in the sunscreen labels. Here’s what you must consider before you purchase a sunscreen to level up your skin protection against the sun.

  1. Check the Ingredients.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration scientist identified four sunscreen ingredients such as avobenzone, oxybenzone, octocrylene, and ecamsule. FDA found out that these active ingredients are absorbed systematically in user screens and found in the user’s urines, blood plasma, and breastmilk after using sunscreen with these contents. Further studies are still needed to prove this.

These ingredients may be absorbed in the skin and can penetrate the body, but it doesn’t mean that it is already harmful to your body. These are approved ingredients that block UVA rays, which is the primary purpose of the sunscreen.

  1. Choose a sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum.

We used sunscreen to shield our skin from the two sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays: the UVA (Ultraviolet A rays) and UVB ( Ultraviolet rays B). Research findings say the UVA can deeply penetrate the skin, causing wrinkles and increases the chances of developing skin cancer. UVB is the type of cancer-causing rays, and that’s what the SPF is only blocking. Check the sunscreen label and check of it has UVA and broad-spectrum or multi-spectrum protection.

  1.  Choose a sunscreen with a higher SPF level.

SPF offers UVB protection. The SPF level indicates how it protects us well against the UVB rays. Typically, after 10 minutes of sun exposure, we get sunburn; if you get SPF 15, it means 15 times protection, or it keeps you protected for 150 minutes. So, choose a sunscreen that has SPF 30 or higher for more extended protection.

  1. Look for a sunscreen with UV blockers.

Choose a sunscreen with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. It is a less expensive option for UVA protection, yet pure mineral products can effectively block the sunlight.

These ingredients are safe and ideal for children and people with sensitive skin. Mineral sunscreen contains iron oxide that can protect you against electronic devices visible lights that can also cause damage to your skin.

  1. Look for a sunscreen with niacinamide.

Niacinamide is a skin-care-boosting ingredient. It is a water-soluble vitamin that strengthens the skin barrier. At the top of that, it further protects the skin from UV light and pollution. It is also known for its antioxidant property that helps in improving fine lines and wrinkles.

  1. Choose sunscreen recommended by experts.

It is better if you will choose a sunscreen that is recommended by the experts. They know what is best for your skin type. Although there are hundreds of sunscreen protection available in the market, only a few sunscreens the experts highly recommend.

Avoid sunscreens that have alcohol, preservatives, or fragrances if you have allergies or any skin irritation. If you have sensitive and easily irritated skin, prevent using sunscreens with benzophenones like oxybenzone, dioxybenzone, sulisobenzone, or para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) or children because their skin is
