Halloween Makeup Tips

The advent of countless social media tutorials of “how to” up your Halloween makeup game creating freakingly flawless Frankensteins to spooky scarecrows can wreak havoc on your skin. The stage and heavy makeup brands may use  adulterating heavy metals, oil clogging ingredients, and heavy coverage that can freak out your skin with clogged pores, irritations, allergic reactions, and breakouts. Here are some tips from our beauty experts to make Halloween a little less scary this year:

Tips:

  • Look for good quality makeup and avoid ingredients that may have lots of oils, waxes, and cocoa butter. Cheaper makeup brands may use these ingredients. Look for “non comedogenic” or “oil free” makeup that wont clog your pores.
  • Prime and prep your skin: Use a gentle cleanser and a light silicone based primer (Elite MD favorites: Acne Clear Cleanser (oily skin); Exfoliating Pore Cleanser (normal, mature skin); BB Primer (moisturizing, primer, and SPF in 1!).
  • Do NOT sleep in your makeup.Double cleanse your makeup to ensure all of it is off (see above recommendations)After cleansing, use a light exfoliating pad containing fruit acids (Elite MD picks: Resurface Cleansing Pads).
  • Treat and repair your skin while you sleep. You want to get the extra nourishment, moisture, and healing after using all the heavy makeup, unique prosthetics, and nighttime partying.

(Elite MD faves: Phyto stem cell therapy creamHydraboost serum (add just a couple drops to your favorite moisturizer for an extra boost); Eye Brightening Cream (good bye dark undereye circles).

Be safe and have a boo-tiful Halloween!
